The Project
DM Music were commissioned to design and install a new loudspeaker system at Hadleigh Baptist Church in Suffolk. The project aimed to significantly improve sound quality, clarity, and coverage throughout the church while maintaining an aesthetically discreet installation that complements the building’s architecture.
Using Martin Audio’s excellent CDD range of loudspeakers, the new system delivers controlled and balanced sound across the congregation space, ensuring both spoken word and music are heard with precision and warmth.
Challenges
- The existing loudspeaker setup provided uneven sound coverage and lacked clarity in some areas, especially within the gallery
- The church required a modern and discreet speaker design that integrates sympathetically with the space
- The new system needed to deliver consistent stereo coverage for both speech and music applications
- Acoustic efficiency and control were key to reducing unwanted reflections and improving intelligibility in a reverberant space
Key Features
- Martin Audio CDD Differential Dispersion loudspeakers, providing precise horizontal and vertical coverage tailored to the church layout
- Two suspended main loudspeakers for uniform stereo sound and improved clarity throughout the Nave
- Two ceiling-mounted delay loudspeakers for the gallery, time-aligned for improved clarity and accurate sound perception
- Martin Audio suspended cardioid subwoofer for enhanced low-frequency performance with directional control — reducing excess bass energy and preserving floor space
- Martin Audio loudspeaker processor and low-noise amplifiers for system optimisation, including fine-tuned EQ, crossover, and delay settings matched to the church’s acoustics
Solution
DM Music designed and installed a high-performance Martin Audio loudspeaker system that meets the church’s need for clarity, balance, and visual discretion. The use of Differential Dispersion technology ensures that every listener, from the front rows to the gallery, experiences the same clear and intelligible sound.
The addition of delayed ceiling speakers enhances coverage in the gallery, while the flown cardioid subwoofer provides full-range musical depth without compromising the church’s aesthetics. Through precise digital processing and system calibration, DM Music achieved a natural, transparent sound that supports both speech and contemporary worship.
The result is a refined, efficient, and unobtrusive audio system that greatly enhances the worship experience at Hadleigh Baptist Church.
