The Project
St Peter’s Church in Woodmansterne required an upgrade to its existing video and AV facilities to improve visibility for the congregation while maintaining a discreet, architecturally sensitive installation. The project also included reconfiguring the existing PA position to create a more practical and flexible AV operating area.
Challenges
- Replacing an ageing projector and drop-down screen with a modern, clearer display solution
- Achieving good sightlines for the full nave without visually impacting the church interior
- Retaining and reusing existing AV infrastructure where possible
- Relocating the PA position while maintaining uninterrupted operation of audio, loop, and antenna systems
Key Features
- Dual large-format LED displays providing clear, bright visuals throughout the nave
- Simple HDMI-based video switching integrated into the existing PA case
- HDMI signal distribution over CAT cabling for reliability and future scalability
- Reuse of the existing AV control panel for monitor power and standby control
- Discreet headset microphone upgrade compatible with the existing wireless system
- Future expansion capability, including provision for additional HDMI inputs
Solution
The existing projector and screen were removed and replaced with two carefully sized LED monitors: an 86” display in the north aisle adjacent to the pulpit and a 75” display in the south aisle, both mounted on adjustable brackets and angled to face into the nave. HDMI input sockets were installed into the existing AV case, feeding a simple HDMI switcher and CAT-based distribution system to both displays.
The PA case was relocated to a more practical position further back in the nave, with all existing multicore, speaker, hearing loop, and antenna cabling professionally extended and re-terminated. A new discreet headset microphone was added for improved speech clarity, and a minor repair carried out to the existing receiver. The result is a clear, modern video solution and a more functional AV layout that supports both current needs and future development.
