Radio Microphones
Since 1992 DM Music have supplied more Radio Mic systems to UK Churches than any other company.
We have trawled through whats available and what's best. Our criteria is based on whether the products sound good, are reliable, and represent good stewardship.
Radio or wireless microphones are ideal to eliminate trailing wires, allow freedom of movement and for keeping your options open when using mics. You can use up to four radio mics simultaneously without requiring a user licence. Generally, the more you spend on a radio mic the more selectable radio frequencies you will have available to you to help you avoid radio interference from other sources. Cheaper systems may be susceptible to 'drop out' where signal is interrupted whereas the more professional systems have intelligent electronics to ensure you get the best signal at all times.
Here is a quick over view of radio mic types - or please call 0844 980 9822 for more information
Lapel / Lavalier / Tie-Clip Mics
Very discreet microphone worn on clothing attached to a pocket sized belt / battery pack transmitter. Very popular for giving sermons, leading worship and general presentations. The tiny microphones are condenser type. E.g... Audio Technica 700 series ATW-701p/f
Roaming 'Condenser' wireless hand held mics
A hand held radio microphone that will pick up the voice at close range or at arms length. Perfect for use as a 'roaming' mic to hand around in meetings, worship groups etc. Sometimes used on a lectern although is more bulky than the miniature gooseneck lectern mics. E.g. TOA Desktop 5200 series (with WM5220 mic)
Hand Held Wireless vocal mics
Most commonly used by singers to allow freedom of movement on stage. Dynamic type mic for use close up to the lips for total control of volume and bass response. E.g. Sennheiser Evolution G2 ew135.
Head set Radio Mics
Generally two type available - discreet headsets and the more robust vocal / singers headsets. Discreet headsets have tiny mic capsules on the end of a thin wire and usually hang from one ear - tiny and discreet these are popularly used for giving sermons and leading worship. Vocal headsets are more bulky and rugged, designed for live stage use - great for drummers, keyboard players etc. - popular with singers such as Madonna and Britney Spears! E.g... Sennheiser Evolution G2 ew 152
Instrument radio systems
Guitarists can use radio systems much the same as with the lapel radio microphones - just connect the guitar to a belt pack transmitter and eliminate leads connecting you to your amp! E.g. Audio Technica 700 series.
In Ear Monitoring (IEM)
- see Foldback Monitors section
Have the monitor mix transmitted directly to your ears via a radio IEM system. Just wear the belt pack receiver and use headphones or in ear phones - no need for bulky stage monitor speakers, eliminate feedback issues on stage and have your ideal mix at all times at a volume you control! E.g. Audio Technica M2 IEM.
